| Burt
Singer (1932-2002) |
...a
father to many |
 Burt
was born in Boston, the middle child of immigrants from Eastern
Europe. He grew up in a loving family circle in the midst
of a strong Jewish community.
At the time of his Bar Mitzvah, his Dad gave
him a much desired gift--boxing gloves. Wanting to pursue
fame and fortune, he started in Golden Gloves as a junior,
went on to box in the United States Army and then turned professional.
He had over 80 professional bouts when he finally "threw
in the towel". . . but, not before his face was remodeled
forever!
This discipline helped him when, in 1964, he surrendered
his life to Yeshua, Israel's promised Messiah. Burt learned
to fight the
good fight of faith--not in the flesh with his fists but inspired
by the abiding presence of G-d in his life. Rather than being
a fighter, Burt became a lover and this marked his life until
its end here on earth. He was a strong man of faith, zealous
for others to discover
the truth he had found, and always having a very tender heart
to everyone around him.
Burt first lived in Israel from 1970-1972. He
longed to find the "perfect" woman to be his wife.
After returning to the United States, Burt met Pam in a meeting
where there were thousands of people present but when he first
saw her, the voice of G-d spoke clearly to him, "There's
your wife." As he shared about his love for Yeshua and
Israel, Pam realized that this was her destiny as well and
he was, indeed, the one G-d had chosen for her.
For
the next 29 years, Burt was a wonderful and loving husband.
Since 1975, Israel has been their home. Like most Israeli
men, he served nearly ten years in the IDF reserves. With
Israel as their base, they also traveled extensively and visited
more
than 50 nations. G-d used them as a "Special Delivery"
message, sharing His love "out of Zion" and "unto
the ends of the earth"!
It was while they were on a trip to the States that Burt
passed away suddenly, exactly four months before his 70th
birthday. His earthly grave may be in Chicago, one of their
"adopted" homes, but he lives on forever in the
presence of the L-rd. Burt has realized the deepest longing
and strongest desire of his heart, to be with The One he loved
most Yeshua, His Messiah.
